Month: January 2013
Dear Friend of Truth,
We cannot afford to leave our government on auto-pilot. Left to their own devices, without the oversight of an informed and active citizenry, our “representatives” have taken care only of themselves, their own interests and personal political ambitions.
Israel will have a new government after the election of January 22. Although it is overwhelmingly likely that Benjamin Netanyahu will remain Prime Minister, the nature of the Israeli government is likely to change depending on which political parties become part of the governing coalition.
During his late, lamented campaign, Mitt Romney opined:
It’s the economy, and we’re not stupid.
Well, maybe. But the economy is a lot of people, millions of them actually, from the assembly line worker to the CEO, and has a surprising way of righting itself despite a plethora of bad policies.
I did a lot of soul-searching before writing my latest article, “After the Fall: What Do You Do When You Conclude America is (Temporarily or Permanently) Kaput?” Of course, I believed every word of it and have done so for a while.
I think this is what is called a slam dunk. Barack Obama has now proposed filling the three positions in the US administration most concerned with the security of the nation and the defence of the free world, those at State, Defence and the CIA, by three men who have all taken up positions which can only strengthen those who threaten the security of America and the survival of the free world.
During World War II, a group known as the Monuments Men, “attempted to minimize [Nazi] damage to European monuments and architecture and then track down stolen works of art.
The US Senate vote on the nomination of John Brennan and Chuck Hagel to the positions of CIA Director and Defense Secretary, respectively, will shape US power projection and posture of deterrence, global sanity, war on Islamic terrorism and the US determination to avert the wrath of a nuclear Iran.
Obama, Israel, and Chuck Hagel’s nomination
You really cannot, in fairness, blame President Obama for naming“Chuck” Hagel, one of the most clearly anti-Israel, anti-Semitic members of the Senate (or ex-members in his case) to be Secretary of Defense.
By the standards of the Obama administration, John Brennan, its nominee for CIA director, will not be noteworthy for lack of warm feelings towards the State of Israel.
President Obama’s decision to nominate Senator John Kerry as his next secretary of state will prove to be a disaster for Israel.
Notably absent from the cast of critics: the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, or AIPAC, Washington’s largest and most well funded pro-Israel lobby.
