The Children of Jewish Holocaust Survivors Los Angeles ("CJHSLA") vigorously opposes the planned release of five terrorists, including Samir Kuntar, in exchange for the corpses of IDF soldiers Eldad Regev and Ehud Goldwasser.
Kuntar is Lebanese and was a member of the Palestine Liberation Front. On April 22, 1979, Kuntar led a group of terrorists who snuck into Israel by boat and invaded the apartment of Danny and Smadar Haran and their two daughters, four year-old Einat and two year-old Yael. Kuntar forced Danny and Einat at gunpoint to the nearby beach while Smadar and Yael hid in a closet. Kuntar first murdered Danny in front of Einat so that his death would be the last thing she would see. He then smashed her head with a rock and the butt of his rifle. Smadar inadvertently smothered Yael when she put her hand over Yael's mouth in the closet to make sure the terrorists did not find them. Kuntar vows to resume his terrorist activities upon his release.
Hezbollah, Hamas and the Palestinian Authority are all jubilant at the release of Kuntar. Not surprisingly, they celebrate the Israeli government's surrender to terrorism. The Olmert-Livni-Barak-Yishai Administration has allowed itself to be manipulated by the media's attention to the understandable anguish of the families of Regev and Goldwasser. As a consequence, the terrorists have learned that kidnapping will be rewarded and that there will be no penalty for murdering the hostages they kidnap. After all, because Israel is willing to release even the most heinous murderer in exchange for the corpses of its kidnapped soldiers, there is no reason for the kidnappers to keep their hostages alive.
The Israeli government must be concerned with more than the agony of the Regev and Goldwasser families. It is also responsible for the unnecessary deaths of the Jewish soldiers who were killed in the grossly mismanaged Lebanon War of 2006, and for the kidnapping, murder and maiming of Jewish soldiers and civilians that will inevitably follow this morally bankrupt act of appeasement. It is a day of shame for the Jewish people.

The impetus for forming CJHSLA was the kidnapping by Hezbollah of Ehud Goldwasser and Eldad Regev and of Gilad Shalit by Hamas to put pressure on the responsible governments and world organizations, namely the United Nations, to secure the immediate release of the three Israeli soldiers. A prisoner exchange program was not part of the wording in U.N. Resolution 1701.
